Akshay Kumar - Masterchef India MasterChef India showcases the cooking talents of a variety of contestants, competing to win their own cookery show, cookbook and the £130,000 prize money. Bollywood icon and passionate foodie Akshay Kumar, alongside professional Chefs, Ajay Chopra and Kunal Kapur, use their expertise to judge the dishes, putting the best contestants through to the next round and taking them on an exciting trip into the culinary world, exploring different cuisines from all over India.

Akshay Kumar, a former chef in Bangkok before attaining Bollywood stardom, shares his culinary expertise with both the contestants and the viewers on the show. He says, "Food, like music, cuts across all barriers and everyone loves food. I used to be a chef in Bangkok at one point of time and occasionally whenever I get the time, even now I whip up a dish or two at home. Cooking is a stress buster for me."

The superstar’s passion and love for food can be seen throughout the show, making it even more delightful to watch. He adds, “I opted for this show because I love eating. My passion towards food is the major reason why I am here. I am going to enjoy every bit of this show, which has brought me again to my realism.”

Akshay, an ardent food lover, has always advocated a healthy diet. Through MasterChef India, the actor is also keen to promote healthy eating to viewers across India. His favorite dishes include steamed fish with mustard and fish curry in mustard sauce, although he is equally guilty of a sweet tooth!

After having filmed the series, Akshay appreciates the entire structuring, programming and content of this popular reality TV show format. "A food based reality show of this scale has not been done on Indian television. It is the first of its kind. I have loved every moment of what I have filmed. It was a unique experience for sure," he describes.

India is renowned for its diversity in food and eating habits. Since the show is expected to bind the country together due to the common interest factor, Akshay is also enthralled by the fact that it gives him an opportunity to reach out to the heartland of India. "Television is a fantastic medium. Its reach is even deeper and wider than films. It allows me to interact with the people for which we make movies. It is gratifying to meet my audience personally. The kind of love, affection and feedback one gets from them first hand is humbling and soul healing. It is definitely a platform that takes me right into the living rooms of people and their lives. And what better way to touch people’s hearts than by tickling their tummies."

Be sure to catch superstar, Akshay Kumar, cooking up a delight in the kitchen on MasterChef India, broadcasting exclusively on Star Plus on Saturdays and Sundays at 8.00pm.
