Row of 1970's shops

The search is on to find a lively family to travel back to the 1970s to run one of the first small all-purpose grocery stores. This will be a fantastic opportunity to explore the history of this retail community and a chance for the whole family to get involved and experience the daily life and work of a previous generation.

They’ll be setting up in an existing parade of shops that has been completely fitted out as it would have been in the 70s and will run their shop as authentically as possible. The family will have to master the first frozen food, platforms and flares. These new all-hours, all-goods shops were the start of convenience shopping on the British High Street.

The filming will take place in late August 2010 in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Would you and your family like the opportunity to experience life in different eras of British history? Perhaps your business has a historic family story you’d like to explore? Or maybe you’d like to explore the experiences of your parents or grand parents? Perhaps you’ve recently had to give up your high street shop? Or are you fascinated by the history of retail and how attitudes to shopping have changed? Do you have a family who’d relish the challenge? Ideally you’ll have at least two children between the ages of eight and eighteen. Whatever the case, do get in touch to find out more.
