Davina McCall struggles during training for The BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride

The BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride team have been gearing up for their big challenge by undergoing a training session at Hillingdon cycle circuit with trainer Greg Whyte. David Walliams, Fearne Cotton, Davina McCall, Patrick Kielty and Miranda Hart were put through their paces at the circuit session in preparation for their non-stop relay from John O’Groats to Land’s End. The team are hoping to raise a whopping £1 million for Sport Relief in completing this mighty feat.

On 7 – 11 April, Southbank Centre launches Alchemy, a major new festival celebrating contemporary and traditional culture from India. With a full programme of music, dance, literature, food, debate and fashion, events range from a rare classical concert by celebrated composer A.R. Rahman to the very best UK bhangra, to an evening of music and chat with The Grewal Family from Channel 4’s hit documentary The Family. Add to that free classical and folk dance workshops, early morning yoga, the Alchemy Market and an immersive installation that recreates the sights and sounds of Southall, this five-day festival will take over all venues and spaces of Southbank Centre.

100 dancing tea ladies, a brigade of people made up of supporters, dancers, Fairtrade licensees, and a Fairtrade tea producer from India, made their way from London Bridge to Trafalgar Square, with a quick stop off at the Houses of Parliament via Number 10 Downing Street. They were wearing a tea lady outfit of Fairtrade cotton aprons and headscarves brandishing mugs and placards as they did the conga across London Bridge.

New BBC Asian Network Drive Time presenter Tommy Sandhu is leading the station’s activity for next month’s Sport Relief. Tommy, who launches his new national weekday radio show this week, will be leading a special BBC Asian Network wave at Birmingham’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 21st March.

Launch of ‘Give a Book Week 2010’

Today, Wednesday 24 February, Leighton Andrews AM, Minister for Education, Children and Lifelong Learning, together with BBC presenter Lucy Owen, the face of the campaign, will officially launch Give a Book Week 2010.

A marriage will be made in heaven this month, as luxury brands and world-leading designers unite to showcase exclusive wedding fashions, as well as dream receptionand honeymoon destinations in Muscat and Dubai.

Hundreds of celebrities will be showing their artistic side for charity as part of this year's National Doodle Day. Doodles by celebrities including Slumdog Millionaire actor Dev Patel, comedian Shazia Mirza and Eastenders regulars Nitin Ganatra and Marc Elliott will be auctioned on eBay from Friday 5 March. The auction will raise money for two UK neurological charities, Epilepsy Action and The Neurofibromatosis Association.

NHS Blood and Transplant launch BME Organ Donation Campaign

A host of celebrities from the British Asian, African and Caribbean communities joined forces to launch a campaign designed to raise awareness and encourage members of South Asian and Black communities to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Occasions magazine has launched the search for Scotland’s most eligible Asian bachelor, in conjunction with the Scottish Asian Wedding Show. The nominations are now open and will close on the 19th March.

This FREE festival, by one of UK’s leading South Asian arts companies, Surtal Asian Arts will be held in Market Place from 1pm - 9pm on Sunday 25th July 2010. It will feature headline acts, local talent and a range of stalls that will be selling delicious South Asian cuisines, arts and crafts, fashion and presenting traditional story telling.

Breakfast host Tommy Sandhu hosted by the Main Stage in Leicester's City Centre, which enjoyed acts such as Preeya Kalidas, Mumzy Stranger and H Dharmi. The BBC Asian Network Station Wagon was also at the Mela, playing the latest beats and entertaining the crowds with its eclectic mix of music and Asian Network DJ's.

Riders at the event organised by the Mayor of London, Sky, British Cycling and Ealing Borough Council, enjoyed traffic-free streets, the green spaces of Ealing Common, local sights including Ealing’s popular Town Hall, Pitzhanger Manor House, Lammas Park, and a range of bike-based entertainment.
